Over 300 Vikings will descend on Flag Fen Archaeology Park during the Early May Bank Holiday weekend for the return of its biggest and most spectacular event of the year – Viking Festival 2026.
This thrilling three-day living history event invites visitors to step back in time and immerse themselves in the sights, sounds and drama of the Viking world. With authentic encampments, have-a-go archery, hands-on activities and large-scale battle re-enactments, the Viking Festival promises an unforgettable day out for families, history enthusiasts and first-time visitors alike.
Enjoy weapons demonstrations, archery displays and an opportunity to try archery add to the action-packed programme. The highlight of each day will be the dramatic re-enactment of The Battle of the Holme, fought in East Anglia on 13 December 902 between the Anglo-Saxon men of Wessex and Kent and the Danelaw and East Anglian Danes. Watch as skilled re-enactors charge into battle, swords flashing and shields clashing, recreating the intensity of early medieval warfare.
Visitors can wander through a bustling Viking camp and discover what life was really like 1,000 years ago. Explore a Viking burial, learn about the food they ate and see traditional woodworking, metalworking, cooking and weaving skills brought vividly to life. Daily storytelling sessions will also entertain the younger visitors.
The festival runs from 10am each day (last entry 3pm).
