Family Activities

These fun hands on Fledglings sessions will enable preschool children aged 3+, and their supporting adult, to explore the outdoors through a variety of engaging activities based around an exciting theme. Each session will include a story, song and craft as well as opportunities for messy play and free play to support children’s development and early learning skills. Sessions will take place in our brand new Early Years Area. In the event of adverse weather conditions, sessions will take place indoors.

Limited spaces available - Book early to avoid disappointment. £5 per child (one accompanying adult included)

Fri 10 May- The Gruffalo Storybook

10am - 11.30am

Join in with an exciting retelling of the story The Gruffalo, by Juia Donalson, in the Flag Fen forest but watch out for the cheeky mouse! Follow the animal tracks to go on a Gruffalo hunt and play fox tail tag.

Be creative and decorate your own animal mask and make a Gruffalo to take home using clay and natural materials. Enjoy some sensory play by cooking up a ‘Gruffalo crumble’ in the mud kitchen.

Fri 7 Jun - Nursery rhymes and fairy tales

10am - 11.30am

Follow the fairy dust to hunt for the fairytale characters in the enchanted Flag Fen forest and make a woodland den for an elf. Use clay and natural materials to create your own tree guardian and explore some fairy tale themed sensory play.

Spread some magic and make your own fairy wand to take home using natural materials and enjoy singing your favourite nursery rhymes around the fire pit.

Meet Kirsty (Fledglings Lead)

I am a fully trained teacher with many years of teaching experience in educational settings including primary schools and at Flag Fen. I am passionate about providing fun, hands on learning experiences to support children’s development and spark their curiosity and enjoyment of the outdoor environment. I look forward to welcoming you all to Flag Fen Fledglings.

Dress appropriately

We strongly advise participants to dress appropriately for the weather conditions outside and a woodland environment. Wellies or old trainers are highly recommended as your shoes may get a little muddy!
