Step back into Roman Britain and meet a cheeky Roman market trader! Put your bargaining skills to the test as you haggle, chat, and trade your way through a Roman marketplace. Discover how Romans bought and sold goods, and have a go at reading and writing Roman numerals.

Find out what life was like nearly 2,000 years ago by trying on a traditional Roman toga, then become an archaeologist in our Big Dig Tent and uncover hidden artefacts from the past.Get creative with hands-on crafts by making your own Roman coin from clay and designing a leafy Roman wreath headband to take home.

Stories beneath our feet (3 Aug - 16 Aug)

Journey into the past this summer. In the mornings, bring the past to life through object-led storytelling and discover how prehistoric people used a specific plant to make cordage, textiles, and natural dyes. Get hands-on as you explore the surprising uses of this remarkable plant.

In the afternoon, create your own replica offering inspired by those left beside the ancient causeway and learn about the beliefs and traditions of the people who lived here long ago. Then become part of Flag Fen’s ongoing story by using iPads to record and share your favourite moments from your visit.

Between these activities you can take on the Flag Fen Dig Challenge and uncover the site's story through the ages. Hunt for fossils in the Oxford Clay, explore Bronze Age causeway pits, and discover Roman treasures hidden in the Big Dig Tent.

Bushcraft & Nature Discoveries (17 Aug - 31 Aug)

Enjoy a family day packed with outdoor adventure, wildlife, and hands-on bushcraft skills.

Treat your family to a day of outdoor adventure and discovery. Start the morning with a gentle ranger-led nature walk, followed by an exciting pond-dipping session where children can get up close to the fascinating creatures living beneath the water’s surface.

In the afternoon, put your bushcraft skills to the test with a range of hands-on family activities. Work together to build shelters, learn how to light fires safely, practise simple navigation techniques, identify native plants, and even try your hand at flint knapping using bars of soap.
