Pre-history: Home Education Day

Morning Activities (10am–12 noon)

In the Forest School area:

Wattle and daub (self-led) – Try your hand at prehistoric building techniques

Rock art (self-led) – Create your own cave-style artwork using natural inspiration

Nettles (teacher-led) – Learn how this humble plant was used in prehistoric times

In the Yurt:

Craft Activity (teacher-supervised) – Discover the Bronze Age Flag Fen landscape. Use paper plates, tissue paper, and clay to create your own mini world, complete with a clay roundhouse!

Afternoon Activities

Storytelling in the roundhouse
Sessions at 1:00pm, 1:45pm & 2:30pm
Step inside our roundhouse and gather around the fire for an interactive storytelling session. Learn how roundhouses were built and explore how prehistoric people shared knowledge through spoken stories.

Handling session in the education room (1pm–3pm)
Get hands-on with replica prehistoric artefacts! Investigate what they were, how they were made, and which era they came from — Stone Age, Bronze Age or Iron Age?

All Day (10am–3pm)

Every child will receive a Flag Fen Workbook packed with self-led activities, site-based worksheets, and background information to support learning throughout the day.
