Travel through time to discover what it was like to live in a real life Viking encampment. Explore a Viking burial, learn about the meals they ate and see the traditional woodworking, metalworking, cooking and weaving skills in action.

Visitors will be able to witness weapons, archery displays and a spectacular Skirmish with an opportunity to have a go at archery too! The highlight of each day will be the main re-enactment of the Battle of Ringmere 1010.

Did you know the battle of Ringmere in 1010 was fought on the 5th of May?

The battle was fought between an Anglo-Danish army from Cambridgeshire and East Anglia led by Ulfcytl (Ulfketil), and a Viking army led by Thorkell the Tall which may have included Olaf Haraldson aged 15, who went on to be King of Norway until his death in the battle of Stiklestad.

A day out to remember - Enjoy our family-friendly walking trail, experience the reconstructed Bronze Age & Iron Age roundhouses, and hop and jump around the play area. Top it all off with a relaxing bite to eat, hot cuppa or treat in our Roundhouse Café.

Check out Flag Fen's self-led activities, which include:

  • The Big Dig Tent
