The Danelaw
Don Chiswell - Local Historian

This talk explores the Danelaw. Created by the Treaty of Wedmore between Alfred the Great and the Great Army, the Danelaw covered much of eastern and northern England between the rivers Thames and Tees, settled by the Danes in the ninth century.

Within its boundaries, Danish law, customs and language prevailed - and their linguistic influence can still be traced in place names and everyday words today.

Tickets: £15 per person
Doors open: 6:30pm | Talk: 7:00pm–7:50pm | Q&A: 7:50pm–8:15pm | Close: 8:30pm
